Putting this in writing so I actually do it: My goal is to run a 5k by June. Post your goal below and let's check back in a month to see who stuck with it!

Happy New Year! Cheers!

Not sure I can stick with completely no sugar, but probably cutting it by half is a start.

Don't even want to write anything coz I know I won't keep it. I'll just do good deeds, that's it!

that's great! I've been starting to run for a year now. just want to share that you shouldn't rush the mileage! Most people get shin splints by doing too much too soon.
Follow the structured C25K plan, it's the gold standard for avoiding injury and staying motivated.

I don't really set annual goals as such. What I do however is to go around my place looking for things that need to be addressed or done and make a alpha list. From this list I break down those larger issues and make smaller list from it.

How do my list work ? Well, I used to work for this German company some time back and I learned to make list their way.
(I call them "German List")

At the end of each day I try to create a list of about 10 things that I figure I could get done. The list has three columns.

First are the "things" that I want to get done. The second column sets the order in which each needs to be done. (here items on the list may have to be done in a priority perhaps one thing done before another so the later task can then be done.
It also sets up the logistics if traveling to places to get materials etc to do following task. I us numbers beside those items in the first column to set the order. The third column deals with "time" (some places close earlier than others so things that have to be done before closings can be considered. And finally, if traveling is to take place I try to assign letters A-Z. In this I take into consideration the "map" of the traveling to these locations so I could make one line thru those places so I'm not backtracking. The least amount of miles to travel to cover what has to be done.

It's about planning ultimately. But it gets things done efficiently. Then when all the task are completed I have the rest of the day to myself. I can reward myself and relax before planning out the next list. See.

Setting lofty goals without a plan of execution to accomplish them is what leads so many people to laugh and joke about what a farce New Years Resolutions are. I've found it better to set short range "accomplishable" goals to be more effective.

I would compare this to the race between the Hare and the Tortoise with the Hare being the New Years Resolution and the Tortoise the list making.
