Glad to be here as I have several friends and neighbors who are living in tiny homes. We speak get together and discuss their plans now that they are living in such a facility. Many are interested in getting a RV of some kind and traveling some. They have their Tiny Home on their kids property where it can be monitored when they are away and it's like a new freedom for them. They tell me that their Grand Kids really want to come and stay with them on the week ends now. Before they had to buy a computer just to get their kids to come around. :)

Hi @eDJ, nice to see a potential friend.

I hope you share more stories about your friends and neighbors' homes. This is something that interests me. What size are the tiny homes? And is it one or two people living in each of them?

I thought it would be nice to be part of a community. There is a community of tiny homes created about 11 miles from here.

Hi Sarah ;)

Most of them here are single inhabitants where some are seniors and others are young people.
Those in between those age groups generally have kids and want a sticks & bricks home.

Many of the seniors are widows/widowers or divorced later in life. They are often on the property of one of their kids. Still some are out away from zoning laws where they can have a simple cistern for water and a septic tank with leach field. If they can connect to the electric grid they tend to install a mini-split heat pump heating system for heat and a/c.

Some are original builds and others are purchased wooden utility buildings converted to a living quarters. Most have metal roofs with rain gutters that have pipes that lead to the cistern.
The cisterns are usually 500+ gallon plastic tanks suitable for water storage. There is a submersible electric pump to supply on demand water for kitchen or bathroom needs.

The layout is generally a bathroom kitchen computer nook, a bedroom, and a living area where the living area and bedroom are separated by the bathroom & kitchen. The younger folks may have a loft with a bed but the seniors want all one floor.

It should also be mentioned that some of these "Tiny Homes" aren't the built as a house variety. Some own Class C or even A type RV's parked on their kids property a few months of the year when they aren't traveling. It serves as a tiny home in that time.

But that's what I can tell you from my part of the world here in southern Ohio.

That sounds about like what I've started seeing in Alabama and Tennessee. There also seems to be some 'park' or 'communities' being created. I like the idea. However, I'm interested in a small piece of land under hardwood trees.

I 've seen one small development and I'll try to get a photo of it. It is in an un-zoned area and not in the limits of any village/town.

I was out yesterday and went past this one development. I was told that they intend to start with about 8 of these and expand if there is interest.

Thanks for sharing those photos. They would be a good starter home, but maybe not so good for elders with knee issues. The stairs. When they are finished and if allowed, I'd love for you to go in and take a few photos and post them here.
