Finding land without getting fined

I found a perfect spot for my house but the local zoning laws say I cannot live in an RV on a private lot for more than two weeks. Not sure of other areas. It feels like the biggest hurdle to this lifestyle is just finding a legal place to park without a neighbor calling the city. Have you had luck finding a tiny home village or do you just hide your build behind a big fence? Seems like it's becoming more diffcult these days.

I spent two years "stealth" parking in a friend's backyard and it was a constant source of stress. I eventually moved to a rural county that has no minimum square footage requirements for dwellings. It is a long commute to work but being legal and having my own address is a massive weight off my shoulders.

Check your local laws for "Accessory Dwelling Unit" or ADU permits. Many cities are starting to allow tiny homes in backyards as long as they are hooked up to the main house's utilities. It is a great way to live in the city while still having your own private space. Hope you find a good spot.

Have you looked into tiny home villages? I live in one in Oregon and it is like a modern trailer park but with much better design and a sense of community. We all share a garden and a large workshop which makes living in a small space much easier. Not a lot of this type of communities but I hope you find one wherever you are.

I found my spot by posting a "land wanted" ad on a local community board. I pay a farmer a few hundred dollars a month to park in an unused corner of his pasture. We have a simple private contract and since we are far from the road the county doesn't even know I am here.

The hardest part about the legal side is the "wheels" vs "foundation" issues. Some places will let you stay forever if you take the wheels off and put the house on blocks. It is a bit of a loophole but it works in many jurisdictions that are strict about RVs. Hopefully more open up but people are concerned of their privacy, having someone else live within their property.
