Finding a place to park is the hardest part of the whole tiny house journey. Many towns still have laws that say a house must be a certain size or you cannot live in a trailer for more than a month. I spent months talking to local planners and finally found a spot in a rural area that allows accessory dwelling units. It takes a lot of phone calls and patience to stay legal. Are you currently parked in a backyard or did you find a dedicated tiny house community?

A friend of mine spent six months looking for a spot and eventually found a farmer who was happy to rent him a corner of a field for a few hundred bucks. His trick was showing him that his setup was clean and wouldn't be an eyesore for his neighbors. He even signed a simple lease agreement to keep things official for the local zoning board. He said it was a lot of door knocking but there are people out there willing to help if you are respectful.

Have you found that private landowners are easier to deal with than city officials?
