need ideas for entrance steps

Hey everyone! Looking for some advice on building easy entrance steps for my son's house. He bought a tiny house, but it's got no front steps. Yeah, we're talking a two foot jump just to get in! he's about to be a dad, so I think this is important

We're on a tight budget and aren't exactly seasoned builders, though we've done small projects.

I've thought about wood, stone, and concrete, but it all seems a bit much. Stone looks great, but it's hard to find and expensive.

Wood steps are usually the better option if you're on a budget-friendly route and it's also very easy to build for beginners. For it to be perfect though, careful you gotta use treated lumber so it holds up outside. Keep it simple with a basic frame and treads. Concrete is the BEST option but it can get pricey and quite complicated, too.

You can build a basic set of wooden steps using pressure treated lumber, its cheaper, beginner friendly and there are tons of simple DIY guides online. Just two or three steps with a handrail will do the trick, and you can knock it out in a weekend. If you want even less hassle, look into prefab concrete steps or concrete blocks... they're sturdy and ready to go, just need leveling

A budget friendly tip is to try to find secondhand materials on Craigslist or facebook marketplace, people sell leftover deck lumber or even a whole set of steps for way less money.

This landing is about 6" tall x 3' square. This landing uses 6 of those blocks. To make it 12" use a second layer of blocks.

Another suggestion would be to make a wooden platform, like a wooden box to the height desired and a step up to the platform. This could be within inches of the doorway to make getting groceries, etc into the house easier. Sort of like a small porch. This would use very simple skills, plywood and 2 x 4s.

That is a thoughtful project for your son's new family. If you are set on using wood, a simple frame with a couple of risers and a top platform is a very common design that is not too difficult to build. You can use standard pressure-treated lumber for the frame and deck boards for the top. A lot of home improvement stores have simple plans available for this kind of project. The key is to make sure the base is level and firm and to secure everything properly
