I’m redesigning my sleeping area and torn between a Murphy bed and a loft setup. I want to keep the space open during the day but still comfy at night. What’s worked best for you?
Both Murphy beds and lofts are excellent space-savers, but I think the choice comes down to your priorities. The Murphy bed wins on nightly comfort since it's a proper mattress while giving you total floor freedom during the day. The compromise is the daily routine of lifting it and the wall space it requires. On the other hand, a loft keeps the floor clear permanently with no daily work, but you have to deal with the nightly climb and the tighter headroom.
hi @SydNapier6, I can tell you that both options are great for maximizing space, but they create totally different living experiences. one tip from me, if you pick loft, maybe think about the heat.
when the heat rises, the loft area can get incredibly stuffy in the summer (or even warm days). Make sure you have a fan (like a small bedside clip on) and a window or vent up there for air circulation, or it would be uncomfortable
I agree with them! I have tried the loft setup but I do not like it. The reduced headroom makes me feel as if I am enclosed in a box. This is why I switched to a Murphy bed.
