I'm looking for some cheap land. My plan is to put away enough cash to clear a path for a permanent house deeper in the woods. I need a movable home, so I'm checking out skiddable or wheeled options. Once I get a driveway, well, and septic sorted, I want to haul my place to the back. I thought about a yurt, figuring its sections would be light enough to haul. My vibe is to make breakdown panels that I can build elsewhere, stash in a garage, and haul in a small trailer or truck. I can assemble it on-site and, later, disassemble and move it as I clear more land. This way, expanding is easy. Start with a 12x16 footprint, then add panels to make it 20x20 or 20x30. If all panels are the same, I can just build more and reuse what I have. Perfect if a friend moves in; just add another bedroom without a total rebuild. I think this is workable with a few tools. Plus, no lumber pile sitting out makes it harder for thieves. The whole thing will go up fast. I'm thinking of standard 4x8-foot panels for walls, floors, and the roof. Insulated, maybe with wiring or plumbing inside. I'd connect them with 2x4s, easy to screw and move. Open to metal if it's stronger but still simple to take apart, cheap, insulated, and fits in my truck. Sure, it might use more material than a regular house, but the flexibility is worth it. Building even a month faster saves on rent. Simple, flat roof, like metal sheets, since they're reusable.
Some panels would have doors and windows. 2 doors for safety. Other panels would be for the kitchen and bathroom. I know this might bend the rules, so I'm thinking of calling it a utility camping retreat or putting it on a mobile home frame to make it a travel trailer. Any thoughts on why this might not pan out?
