ISC International Shipping Container with living roof

This is a tiny home made out of a shipping container. I fell in love with it when I first saw it.. This one is 40' X 8' X 8.6'. What is visible in this photo is the 40 X 8 container (320 sq ft tiny home), but behind it is a 20 X 8 (160 sq ft) container for utility/storage. 480 sq ft total.

Notice the roof is covered with vegetation. It's called a living roof and it insulates as well as it filters rain water for the cistern. The vegetation is a combination of certain grasses specially used for this purpose.. Ultimately the water will go thru water filters before being used by those who live in the home. Having decks and patio paved approaches to the home expands the feel of living room.

Living roofs have been used on semi underground homes for some years now. They are constructed over rubberized roofs and outlast other types of roofs. If one wanted to use solar panels for electric or hot water those facilities would be ereIfcted on ground based scaffolding structures.

If this were built in a sunbelt area or where it is arid, then it may be necessary to water the roof occasionally.
 
I've seen others like that while watching small/tiny home videos. I like that one also.

I'm a big fan of the shipping container conversions, and this one is done so well! I love how they've used the two containers to create a decent amount of space. I'd say 480 sq ft is pretty generous for a tiny home, especially with the separate storage unit you mentioned. That's a great idea for keeping the main living area uncluttered.

I've also been seeing the living roof, and I think it's a cool feature, especially for off-grid living! It's really smart how they've planned for the water filtration system.

Impressive, that living roof steals the show for me!
I've heard about them being used for insulation and water filtration, but seeing one on a container home like this is next level!
The idea of it outlasting a traditional roof is a huge plus, especially for a tiny home where every design choice is so critical.
I'm also really interested in the water filtration system that goes with it.
The combination of the living roof with the cistern and filters seems like a really smart way to manage resources!
I think this is a great example of how a tiny home can still feel spacious and well-thought-out!
 
This is the coolest things ever and now I want one. @eDJ_ do you have any more info? Are these even real or is this just a fictional project? I'd love to set something like this up in a remote area away from everything and just enjoy the peace and quiet.
 
The image is from a website of an architectural company who seems to specialize in ISC conversions. (poteetarchitects.com) I fell for it when I first saw it and realized it was something "I" could do if I could find the land I'd like to have for it. It would be mainly for snow birding in during the harsh winter months here. It is not an AI generated illusion. (I know anymore so much stuff is) But this is real.

They call it the shipping container guest house.


There are a bunch of photos of it from different angles on the net. I've seen plenty.

Look under the patio deck and you'll notice 5 skids.

This is just a single 40 foot ISC, but if I were to build one I'd want to attach a 20 foot ISC behind it for extended living space. That would give another 160 sq ft of space.

I agree! I'm also a big fan of this design. Having those two containers with separate storage is really handy, and that green roof? Such a smart way to go off-grid a bit.
